Training & Education

Build Your Global Mobility Competencies.
Gain Recognition of Your Expertise.

The GMS™: a Breakthrough Designation

Worldwide ERC®’s long tradition of educational excellence combines with our innovative and creative training techniques to bring you a significant designation, perfectly timed to meet today’s career and informational needs. This training-based designation has quickly taken its place alongside Worldwide ERC®’s well-known Certified Relocation Professional (CRP®) designation to recognize knowledge and professionalism in the field of global workforce mobility.

The designation brings recipients greater visibility in the workforce mobility industry, as the GMS™ designation accompanies your name whenever it appears in Worldwide ERC® publications and communications, most notably in Worldwide ERC®’s Directory and Roster listings.

Because Worldwide ERC® offers the GMS™ training internationally, the designation has quickly become recognized around the world, positioning recipients with the credentials to address global business and career opportunities.

Worldwide ERC® has recruited some of the best faculty in the world to teach the training modules. Each module features multiple instructors who are proven experts in their respective fields and who have demonstrated successes as effective presenters and trainers. Faculty varies from location to location, allowing a more diverse set of experiences and examples. Click here to see a list of some of our distinguished GMS™ faculty members.

The GMS™ Designation is a three-year certification, which can be renewed through self-paced, online courses.

How to Earn Your GMS™

The GMS™ designation is a professional learning opportunity that will ultimately result in your earning an important career-enhancing designation. The program will grow your understanding of global workforce mobility issues and provide you with the tools to succeed in this challenging arena. Earning the GMS™ is accomplished by participating in three training modules and passing an online exam after each one. The exams are designed to reinforce the learning accomplished during each training session. Please note that you must attend the full day of each module in order to receive credit for the GMS™ class and to receive the access code for the exam.

The training modules are designed to cover a wide range of topics:

Module 1: The Fundamentals: Applied Expatriate Policy Development
This training module will help you:

  • acquire new “tools” you need to help your organization's global initiatives succeed;
  • calibrate those tools you've already acquired through your own career experience; and
  • enhance your understanding and skill in applying these tools to your organization's global program.

Module 2: Strategies and Tactics: Global Workforce Mobility
This module will:

  • help you anticipate challenges and adapt your programs and policies to new business imperatives and the evolving needs of “the new expatriates;” and
  • provide you cost-effective alternatives to the traditional expatriate approach.

Module 3: The Intercultural Challenge: Doing Business Globally
This module will help you:

  • Understand the "iceberg theory" of culture
  • Learn the dimensions of cultural differences based in research and theoretical models
  • Identify key components of intercultural education training for "bare bones" and "full blown" relocation policies
  • Access resources for culture specific information and education
  • Address the issues and challenges of global team work and identify strategies for improving cross cultural communication

Benefits of the GMS™

Students will leave each course having gained a broader understanding of global workforce mobility issues, with a valuable binder of speaker's slides and other material as well as access to valuable online materials that will serve as an ongoing reference.

The exams are designed to reinforce the learning accomplished during each training session. Questions are drawn directly from the material presented in the module and the respective binders distributed at the sessions.

Recipients of the GMS™ designation are recognized in Worldwide ERC® publications, including the Roster of Members and Resource Guide, the Worldwide ERC® Directory, and the online Global Services Directory. This mark of distinction identifies to the industry your proven expertise in the global mobility arena.

How to retain the GMS™

Every three years, GMS™ designees must renew their certification. Designees will choose ten (10) one-hour, self-paced courses from a library of online global education programs developed by Worldwide ERC. Courses will update and expand on designees’ understanding of trends, best practices and standards in global workforce mobility. The courses do not require an exam.

The online courses will be available in the second quarter of 2007 for all current GMS™ designees. In addition, some courses will count as recertification credit for both the GMS™ and CRP® designations.
